  1. gfi replacement

The factory installed GFI which services my galley and head occassionally trips for no apparent reason. I can't find anything in the wiring so I think its just an age thing. I know these don't last forever, and after 25 years I'd like to replace it. Question: can I just install an off the shelf GFI...

  2. winter battery maintainance & solar panels

Wondering if anyone has any experience with using solar panels to trickle charge batteries during the winter months? It gets really cold here in Canada and rather than lug the batteries off the boat I have four small solar panels (bought on sale) I'm thinking of attaching to my four batteries to...

  3. Question '86 36' Sedan trim tab replacement

I broke off the port trim tab and actuator and am looking for a part / model number to order a replacement. They are Bennett tabs. Have spoken with both Bennett and Sams and we have not yet been able to identify the exact tab required. Anyone on the forum with a mid 80's 36' Sedan or Convertible...

  4. twin disc MG506

I'm about to change the transmission oil on my twin disc transmissions (Cat 3208). I am unable to read the amount of oil and the oil viscosity on the transmission plates. I believe the oil viscosity is straight 40 weight. Can anyone confirm as indicate likely amount required as well? Thanks. John

  5. what is this ? Trim tab stuff?

Here I go again showing my lack of knowledge as I figure out the boat .... the attached picture shows a black box with an opaque bottom section located at the stern of my lazarette. I am wondering if this holds hydrolic fluid for my trim tab system, and how I service / maintain it? How to open it...

  6. need repair facility in Ft Myers

A fluid leak caused my port Bennet trim tab to collapse while underway. It looks like it may be bent, and will not move. I am currently on the loop and will be arriving in Fort Myers within the next week. Can anyone recommend a good technician to repair it while I am docked at Legacy Harbour. Many...

  7. holding tank 3/4 full indicator light problem

Bought an 86 36' Hatteras Sedan this summer, and then noticed the holding tank indicator light in the head area indicating it was 3/4 full did not seem to operate. The tank must have been pretty fully as the season went on so I had it pumped out. Now the light is on and won't go off. I had it...

  8. Is factory bridge instrumentation weatherproof

I was wondering if the factory instrumentation on my 1986 36' sedan bridge dash is relatively weatherproof / waterproof. While I have a bimini and forward/side panels on my bridge, I prefer to run with only the top on. If I get caught in rain etc, am I risking making an mess of the factory...

  9. Are 2 batteries enough

Hi folks. My Hatt has the original 2 battery set up, one for the starboard engine and generator and one for the port engine and house use. On my upcoming loop trip, I'm wondering if my single port engine/house battery will be enough to run my Norcold fridge overnight while at anchor without...

  10. embarrassing transmission question

Can anyone help me identify the type of transmissions I have in my 86 36' Hatt?. The engines are factory installed Caterpillar 3208 turbos rated at 320 hp. There is no reference in the owner's manuals to the transmissions. Is there a plate somewhere which identifies them, or does someone on the HOF...

  13. Hatteras 45 repower

I have a 1987 45 convertable with 540 hp 6v92 DD's. I would like to repower for reliability and slightly higher cruise(21kts.) Cummings recommended their QSM's with 610 HP so that I would not have to reshaft. I presently have 2" aquamed shafts. Any thoughts or experiences repowering this size...

  14. Oil Change pump

After 8 years my Reverso, 32V oil change pump bit the dust. Was never really adequate, but did the job every fall. Looking for suggestion for replacement reversing gear pump. AC is OK, as I was always at the dock when changing the oil. Have a good manifold system, just need the pump.

  15. 36C series l vs series ll

Can anyone comment on the difference in the ride and seakeeping abilities on a vintage model 36 series 1 versus a mid 80's model series ll. I have decided on a repowered series l and was interested to know the ride and handeling differences between the two.

  16. Boat to Buy 36C or 38C

    Hey guys I have a big choice to make here. I am torn between a 1985 36C w/3208 355hp power plants and a 1988 36C w 671TI 455hp. The 36 is a 3 day ride home and slightly more $$. 18. Generator voltage oscillation

I have two 20 KW Kohler generators , one of them has just started to vary the voltage slightly, but enough to trigger the AC warning. Switching to the other generator stops the warning.
