  1. What Does It Do?

Not only do I like to have everything working on the boat, I also like to know what everything does. In the course of having the batteries replaced on my 74, my mechanic told me that I have some sort of battery conditioner on each bank. Other than just a internet explanation in the blind, can my...

  2. False Bilge Alarm

On my recent trip I ran into an occasional high bilge alarm. Fortunately, it was a false alarm. It seem to happen when I used my trim tab buttons. Is it possible to get a false alarm due to low voltage? It's the only thing I can think of but not sure. Of course, I could not tell which high bilge...

  3. Any Experience with 84 Boatworks in Ft. Lauderdale

I am going to be taking my dink to these folks www.84boatworks.com to try to find the air leak in the bow tube. From my research, it's either going to be a $500 bill or a recommendation that I need an entirely new tube set costing between $8,000-$9,000. Under the circumstances, I thought I would...

  4. DDEC and Battery Equalizer

I finally had a chance to look at all of the blue prints for the boat. If I am reading them correctly, the only thing between a properly running DDEC engine and my batteries is this Vanner battery equalizer which reduces the 24 volts put out by my batteries to the 12 volts needed by the DDEC...

Anyone know George's telephone number on the Incentive. I need to speak with him about a part needed tonight.

  6. Marina wifi or Onboard Aircard

I am taking a hard look at the cell phone plan I have that covers the six lines I pay for. The only line that binds me to my current carrier is the expensive aircard that I have onboard that I use for my CCTV cameras both at the marina and underway. It took forever to get that aircard configured...

  7. Alternator Exciter

I am trying to chase down a problem on one one of my alternators on my 1292 DDEC's. I pulled the alternator from my port engine and had it (and its bad diode) repaired. When reinstalled, the alternator as bench tested seems to be working fine but does not appear to be called upon to put out. I am...

  8. Battery Charger Needed

Well, it looks like I might have spoken too soon on having no damage from Irma. It appears as if the battery charger on my bridge used exclusively to charge the 4D battery 12v battery on the bridge which itself is used exclusively for my bridge electronics appears dead. I am having it looked at...

  9. 12v92 TA DDEC Oil Capacity

I am getting ready to do my first oil change on these engines. What is their oil capacity excluding the gallon or so for each of the four oil filters?

  10. Battery Change Out

I am considering a battery change out on my '74. It is a 24V system. I want to stick with 8D batteries. I do not want Rolls. Had some bad luck with them. What is a good, non AGM choice for the starboard bank which starts the starboard engine. For the port side, which is also the house bank, do I...

I have DDEC displays on my 12v92TA's. Unfortunately, I do not have a manual for them. Is there a way to scroll through past errors showing up on the display?

  12. Not possible But True

Just took first leg of summer cruise. Four fuel tanks. Despite fuel manifold on port engine being in correct position, upon arrival, gauges show both engines drew from same fuel tank. Checked with Bruce. There is no cross over, other than the fuel manifolds, which would permit both engines to draw...

  13. Head Question

The Admiral wants to know if she can use some of those blue hanging things you attach to the inside of a house toilet to keep the bowl clean. Can this be done on GM heads, both salt and fresh? I have no idea if this will damage the stators or if there is something else to use. Thanks.

  14. New Autopilot Compass

Well, after calibrated the AP compass on my Simrad AP 20 successfully, I still have too large a deviation that is non linear. So, it can't really be corrected with the manual offset. And, to make matters worse, I have been unable to locate where the original owner placed the compass to check for...

  16. House Not Boat

Since the HOF forum members are the smartest around, I figure I would run this by you folks. I have many cordless phones in my house. However, the wiring to the jacks of all but one base station is, well, let's just say not up to Hatteras standards. The signal comes in the house to a cable model...

  17. Hatteras 12 Point Alarm - Oil Sender

Although I have been addressing these issues for the past 13-14 years or so, I just can't keep the terminology straight. I have a false oil pressure alarm at start up. I understand I should get an alarm when the key is turned before the oil pressure is sufficient to get beyond the 4 psi rating of...

  19. Avoid My Mistake CCTV

I replaced two of the CCTV cameras on the bridge of my boat because I thought the color looked washed out. Unfortunately, the new cameras I installed today also showed the colors washed out. Well, there must be some sort of filtering screen or something in the strataglass on my bridge that removes...

  20. Battery Supplier Shout Out

Treasure Coast Battery in Stuart, Florida removed four batteries from my 74 in Jupiter and installed four replacements today. A perfect job at the right price. The batteries were $231 per and the total labor was one hour. They did NOT charge drive time either way to Jupiter. Fast and easy.
