  1. 1974 42 c cutlass bearing question

The struts on my 42 c have tapered snout. The diameter on the forward end is not the same as the propeller end so that you can't use a strut pro to push the bearing out. It is about 9" long and the bearing is only 7" long so there is 2" with nothing in it. Has anybody cut the excess off so that...

  2. Power washing bottom

I do a quick haul every year to clean and inspect the bottom and replace zinks. The hull accumulates slime while metal/bronze parts get some barnacles. The barnacles are scraped and I power wash the hull. I use an ablative bottom paint. Do you think power washing annually is substantially reducing...

  3. Shape of Fuel Tanks

G'day. Boat is 1986 68'CPMY Boat's owners manual says that the forward and aft fuel tanks are 2200 litres or about 500 US Gallons each. There are two gauges that you can view in the corridor between the engines but both seem wildly inaccurate in that 1000 litres (250 gallons) added...

  4. Detroit Diesel Tune-up?

Hello all My 1978 DD Operators Manual says "there is no scheduled interval for performing an engine tune-up." And that "minor adjustments of valves and injectors should only be required periodically to compensate for normal wear" I know I'd like to show up at work, or only pay my taxes...

  7. Oil level

I was watching a utube video on changing oil on DD motors and the instructor stated that the oil level needs to be right in the middle of the dip stick. Not on the low mark and not on the high mark but right in the middle. This is the first I have heard of this. I wanted to ask you guys for advice...

  9. Exhaust Support Bracket

My 6v92ta engines have an adjustable support pipe that bolts to a bracket that is welded to the bottom of the exhaust pipe. Well, both brackets have cracked and fixing them would require removing the pipe and having it re-welded. I measured the pipe and found it to be 6" in diameter. As luck...

  10. Calcium deposits in head hose

My center head seems to have stopped flushing. The bowl will fill up but not vacate into the holding tank. 11. Need Some Help Identifying Component

I've been replacing my gauges over the past couple days, and cleaning up a bunch of crappy wiring at the helm in the process. 12. Battery terminal nuts and bolts

Does anyone know where I could get replacement nuts and bolts for my battery terminals to match existing? You'll see on the attached picture that the outside diameter of the shoulders is quite large, although the actual bolt is only 3/8" in diameter. I know, you'll ask: What is wrong with the ones...
