  1. New Cat 7.1 for repower

Looks like Cat is going after the repower market for smaller HP older boats. They claim the new 7.1 is perfect to replace 3208's or "two stokes". Based on the hp, I'd say that means up to 8v71's could be replaced with these. And notice how much emphasis they put on how quiet they are. Seems...

  2. Help! Help! Marine Gear Oil Cooler on my 8v71N

I need someone who is very familiar to help me out with the marine gear oil cooler which is in the lower part of my HE. The oil cooler is stamped with an in and an out but the hoses which bolt into the end cap are reversed according to the Allison info diagram I found. This is an Allison M15. I’m...

  3. repairs

I looked at a Hatteras that has a lot of work that need to be done to get it up to speed. I am not going to buy this boat but just wonder what you guys thought of what it would take to repair each item?

  4. Starboard Bilge Flooding, TMC Toilets and Locating a Leak.

Got a huge shock to find the starboard mid bilge pump counter was registering 8 pumpouts. Also that my batteries were nearly flat after four days away from the boat. Sure enough the starboard bilge was 1/4 full. 1. Rule bilge pump and float had apparently shifted during recent heavy...

  5. Cleaning your dash

Most of us have etched letters in our dashes like, lights, bildge, blowers etc. Mine were so dull I could hardly read them. I decided to paint the letters with white paint to make them stand out. It didn’t seem to work so I took some warm water and a rag to remove the wet paint. After wiping it I...

  6. Looking for Teckspertise (new word) on Battery Chargers

I have a Sentry FR series 32 volt charger that I believe is less then 10 years old. Instead of giving a full charge, and shutting off, it charges to about 28 volts, and starts this surging thing. If I put it on manual, it charges everythong up fine, but obviously wont shut off. Any Ideas?

  7. Replacing vinyl window spline

Once removed what is the best way to replace the new vinyl window spline into the groove in the aluminum frames? The grooves are clean and free of any old sealants/caulk but I'm having trouble getting them to insert. Any ideas on using windex, liquid soap or other slippery fluids? Thinking about...

  8. 53 ED Batteries in the Med.

G-day All, Mélodie needs new batteries for the port and starboard sets. What is currently installed by PO is two banks - each side having 8 x 8v (so 16 in total) of Trojan deep cycle T875 batteries. They lasted 7 years. The original fit was Douglas 825 (8v 250Ah) - would they have been...

  9. Longest Lasting Exterior Teak Finish?

Recently acquired the family 1987 17' Boston Whaler Montauk gratis my Padre. 10. Raritan and Raz Marine

For everyone out there with Raritan, I stopped by the Raritan office in Fort Lauderdale yesterday and to my surprise they had closed this location. There was however a note on the door to head over to Raz Marine. Apparently Raz Marine has taken over the Raritan product line. Had an issue with my...

  11. Icemaker in cabinet - heat dissipation

Maybe too much spare time - to ponder appliance ventilation in enclosed cabinets? After a few years of observing the aft deck icemaker struggle on warm days I decided to install a fan to augment the air flow into the front, and another smaller fan to pull the heat out of the back of the cabinet. ...

  12. Advice Needed in Removing Perko Stern Light

As we have a minor leak in the overhead, I am trying to remove the Perko stern light that may be the source of the incoming moisture. I can't find a drawing online that shows how this light is installed. I got the top off, the rear plate (exposing the wires) and removed three screws from the...

Well after a couple of hurricanes, many work demands, and life in general we are finally out of the paint shop. (3 yrs in the shop! hard to believe) I wasn't certain we would make it out at times. We still have lots of parts to install on the boat but we are close to being done. The focus now is...

  17. Cruising on the head

Question concerning the Galleymaid seawater heads on my 55c. Have been using them at dock and slow cruise with no issues. Made the 200 mile journey to my home port and we cruised a bit at 16 knots due to the length of the trip. Tried two different heads when on plane and the pumps won't pick up...

Changed the fuel filters today for the first time, standard screw on kind. I pre filled them and ran the engines for 15 minutes and all seems good.
