  1. The Cat in the Hat

In my FB feed this morning, an ad on BoatTrader for a 50 Hatteras convertible built in the 80s. In the engine room photos, the DDs are labeled "Thing 1" and "Thing 2". (to be sure, they are Detroits and not Caterpillars, but you get the idea)

Have a 97 Hatteras 50 Sportdeck with DD 6V92. Looking to clean up engine room and do some painting of engines. Any recommendations on what paint to use? Engines are currently white and want to use same color.

  4. Prop vibration

Long story short. Bought boat in 2018. 2019 have new (and qualified) mechanic on board. Says I have a bad vibration on port side. Check cutlass. I do. Cutlass bearings needed and all replaced. Much smoother. Seems good to me. FF to this year. Haul out. Recondition props. PM. Splash. Trip home with...

  5. Thanks to all that helped!!!

I have repaired the electrical issue on my boat with the help of a few members of this forum, pmac, boatsb, riverrandy, Captain Ralph, madhatter1. it was basically replacing the transformer and reattaching the Hatteras wires back on to their proper terminals and inspecting the wires at receptacles...

  6. Rod Holder/Rocket Launcher "Plastic" Liners?

Hey guys - our 1991 41C has Stainless Steel "rocket launchers" or rod holders across the rear of the cabin and also across the rear of the flybridge. Each rod holder has a plastic insert that is 2" (inside diameter of the stainless tube) - see photos... Does anyone have ideas/options of...

  7. Fender attachment points

How I learned to stop worrying and love the heavy aluminum rubrail. Forgive the poor paraphrasing from Dr. Strangelove but the aluminum rub rail really does have that type of mentality associated with it. Great utility can be had by tapping and threading in these 6mm D rings by Wichard. They are...

These are all for 24volt (anything that I tried that was a range-voltage, ie 12-36V, usually failed spectacularly). The last 2 are for indicator lights on power panels, etc. Amazon.com: CEC Industries B2A Ne 51H Neon Glow Lamp : Tools & Home Improvement 4 x E26/E27 24V DC LED Light Bulbs -...

  9. Searchlight advice

I’m replacing a non-moving chrome factory searchlight. Was considering the 24V ACR RCL-95 LED (comes with one wired joystick plus a remote). I almost always drive during daylight with occasion nights on the hook so searchlight would be rarely used but I truly appreciate the importance of seeing...

  10. Galley Maid Windlass..some basic questions

  11. Ok I give up what is it ?

Subscribing to the theory that everything is done for a reason…what are these posts sticking out of the top of the shower doors. I assume these are original all three baths have the same doors . I’m guessing it had some kind of mechanism or latch to keep the doors from swinging closed when they’re...

  12. Hand rail refinishing / finish repair question

So 70 percent of the handrails look o.k. I have a section that the varnish or urethane is peeling off on. Just for kicks I brushed on some Teak oil. The sections were the urethane had peeled off and the wood was white turned basically black. I know teak oil is not the solution, but why would it...

  14. Water Tanks not filling up

I have a 1981 61' MY model that got extended to 70' cpmy. I went back on the water tank recently and I run out of water ever couple days. I'm not a big water user, so I bought a flowmeter and tracked the amount of water going into the system. It overflowed at 58.9 gallons. This explains...

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but you can't search the forum and after looking thru 10 pages (and getting really distracted) I don't see a post about this. I have a 1981 61' MY model (now 70') and I am trying to swap everything to LED and the craziest thing... I have...

  17. Delo 100 online?

Anybody buying Delo 100 through an online retailer? My local DD is crazy priced for the old delvac at $45 per gallon. Oriellys auto parts at $25 seems the best game in town for gallons but I'd prefer 5 gallon pails. BTW just fueled from a truck with offroad at 3.77 gallon, not bad.

  18. Onan generator starter

Struggling a little bit. I have an Onan 15.0 marine genset onboard my 1994 48’ Hatteras cpmy. The starter for the genset is having trouble engaging the bendix. I haven’t torn it apart but completely expect that the gear is worn. Hopefully not the flywheel. Does anyone know a source for a starter...

  20. Detroit diesel closed loop cooling questions

    1) what level should I fill the cooling water reservoir tank up to? I have given different answers. Or maybe...
