  1. The loss of a member.

Many on the forum had the chance to meet Bill Root. I helped him with hurricane prep and did some work on his boat when he had it in Sanford. I sent him a text and his daughter replied that he passed suddenly in April. She is planning a memorial in central Florida in October if anyone would...

  2. Shower drain screen

So after making a mess in the master shower fixing the AC condensate drain, I was spraying it down. The water drains pretty slowly. My wife has been telling this for a while but as usual I wasn’t listening. Under closer examination there is a lot of hair and soap scum built up. My question is if...

  3. Replacing gen set raw water pump with electric pump

I recall seeing threads on this issue, but a search did not turn up any. I have a Westerbeke 8KW gen set. When replacing a shaft seal years ago I apparently didn't press the shaft far enough into the pump to fully engage in the drive gear. This partial engagement has resulted in wearing the slot in...

  4. Lewmar windlass?

I have a lewmar pro series horizontal windlass. I noticed when trying to use it the anchor was wedged between the rubber pulley and wooden pulpit where it sits. Couldnt move it with a sledge hammer. Not that i tried with a sledge hammer but you get the point. . So i unbolted the pulley freed the...

  5. Cutlass bearing or something else?

Wanted to take the Admiral out for an instructional cruise with the new AIS. Got 100 yds from the dock when we heard a loud squawking noise for a few seconds from the back of the boat. I first thought it was somebody putting down a lift - it sounded just like it. We went another 50 yds and heard it...

  7. Galley Maid Head Pump Re-Plumination

Some may recall I've mentioned the need to replace the aging 3/4" sea strainer to head pump hoses on Aslan. I wanted to also accomplish the eventual elimination of 2 of the three head intakes through this consolidation. Initially, my design called for a manifold and valves set-up. While that offers...

  8. Hynautic Steering Relief Valve

The relief valve on my Hynautic Steering has started leaking inside the screw hole where it mounts. I cannot read the numbers on it but there are two options MSV 21 and MSV 19. The first is 950 psi rated and the latter 500 psi. Does anyone know if there is a way, other than the markings, to...

  9. Economaster Hot water heater M-12

Hey all, I am having an issue with the economaster hot water heater on our 43’ Hatteras. I believe the heating element is bad. Does anyone have any experience with these units and what style of heating element they require? I’m assuming due to the age of the unit it would take one of the 4 bolt...

  10. Chi-Com Racor

Well, I thought I'd give it a whirl on my generator fuel circuit. I was hoping replacement of something seemingly as uncomplicated as a fuel filter would be easier than stripping and rebuilding my existing FG500. I had visions of replacing my four 1000s. Forsooth, it's headed back to China. I...

  12. Windscreen Attachment Brackets

My boat came with a new windscreen, but the PO hadn't installed it, and I am getting around to installing it. Can anyone post pictures of how it is mounted to the flybridge? It is the forward angled tinted kind. It consists of two pieces that wrap around and meet in the middle, as well as some...

  13. Overheating issue 12v71

We are anchored off Cumberland Island and the day before yesterday when we arrived the stb engine began to run a little warm the last hour before we got here. The helm gauge indicated a bit above 150 at 1050rpm and the gauge in the engine room was at 170. At the time the port engine was at 160...

  14. How is the Anchor windlass uses

I have a ‘94 convertible. The galley made windlass just has a capstan with no chain gypsy. The anchor has 100 feet of chain before the Line. How did hatteras intend for the windless to be used to pull the anchor? Do people just wrap the chain around the capstan? It seems to slip. I have...

  15. Mystery leak in transom!

Ok, so I've been dealing with this leak since I've acquired my 65' 1989 sportfisher in 2016. I've finally addressed all other weaker areas, potential culprits (deck leak, dockside water, unused thru-holes, packing glands, shaft stuffing box, and some other things I'm sure I forget) and still get...

  19. 220v Question

Replacing all in one stacked washer & dryer with separates. New install requires a separate 120v outlet. Wired 120v off one leg of the 220v thru an additional 20amp breaker. When testing with multimeter, one leg of 220 is 120v, one leg is 114v. Is this okay or is it an indication that...

  20. Cockpit Raw Water Quick Connect question

The valve on the cockpit raw water male quick connect fitting is corroded on my 52C. The valve no longer depresses and allows the ball bearings on the female connector to lock onto the flange. Other than replacement, any suggestions or advice on how to loosen and make operable again?
