  1. Allison Transmission Fluid Level Check

All, Our 43c has Allison transmissions and I am trying to figure out the proper procedure for checking the fluid level in each. I.e. check them cold? After they have been running? Check them while they are running etc? This is the first boat I have owned with Allisons. Thanks in advance!

  2. A suggestion......

I believe Ed is a member here and my remarks are in NO WAY intended to disparage him or his skills, but after watching the following video I would recommend not "a layer of glass" and some polyester on the plug seam on the bottom, but SEVERAL thoroughly wetted layers of increasing width with...

  4. Resealing struts?

Im in the process of getting her ready for the water. Last year she caught a rope and it bent the strut. It was bent back with a hydralic press and it looks and performs perfectly. I have noticed where the strut base meets the hull there is a caulking around it that looks rough. Falling off some...

  7. sea water pump for HVAC

The Dometic PMA 1000 sea water pump (115 v )on our 54 ED MY failed. A replacement part is $600. A Koolair Pump PM 1000 -115 with the same specs and a little more GPM goes for $147 on ebay. Has anyone had any experience with Koolair pumps? Any thoughts or observations would be appreciated.

  8. Water under engine

I know this topic has been discussed but if I had a leaking rudder seal on my port rudder and was running in pretty rough conditions in the ocean for 8 hours, could water migrate to below my port engine. 53 MY, thanks, John

Anyone using maintenance free 8D batteries? Personally I do not like not being able to check water levels, but at the moment, I am not getting 8d batteries with caps in my location.

  10. Battery Time

It's that dreaded time to replace my 4 house batteries. I shouldn't complain, I got 9 years out of them. The "but" is, replacements are limited. I've got Deka's in there, 24" inches long. The battery places are not stocking 8hhg-25's but do stock 8HHG-21's.. 6-8 week lead on the 25's, anybody have...

  11. Storage under front seat

Has anyone ever opened the area under the bow seat on the forward deck. It looks like there might be quite a large void there. I was thinking the seat could be cut open and a couple of hatches put in. Salty Lady 53MY #555 Ft Pierce Fl / Chester Ct

  15. Below deck/engine room paint?

With all of the time that I am spending inside of the engine room/generator room and chain locker, it seems that once the projects are done (yes, I know, "temporarily ahead on the maintenance" is probably the more accurate phrase) I would like not to look at the tired walls. Plus, a clean-looking...

  16. Mysterious Large Bubbles

While running the engines at the dock I notices large bubbles coming out from under the port side of the boat every few seconds. 17. Water accumulation between inboard stringers/center fuel tanks

Hi guys, lately it seems that I've been getting accumulated water between the inboard stringers/over center fuel tanks. This water is now to the point that it spills into the floor of the generator room. It's nasty, oily and who knows what. I have no idea where it's coming from or how it gets on...

  18. Still a noob.....

At the supreme risk of stating what everyone knows, but on the off chance that someone will benefit...... It was quite windy the other day when I went into the engine room and about had my hat blown off. DUH! This may explain why the hallway had trouble heating up. The temperature there is up...

  19. Another mystery solved.

I've finally found a "Consulting mechanic" who will keep me out of trouble, for a fee of course, as I do my own work, and if necessary get his hands dirty if it gets tricky. We discussed my SB engine temperature indications which are suspect at best as they disagree with the IR point and shoot...
