  1. Zinc pencil location?

    Reading my engine operators manual it referred to a zinc in the raw water pump elbow. I believe this is where you prime it. When I recently took mine out it was not a zinc pencil. Does anyone know if there is or is not supposed to be one in there? thanks and have fun boating garyd

  3. Zinc Size for Rudder

    I tried to remove a pencil zinc in a Jabsco 8V71TI raw water pump assembly to check the zinc condition and found the cap came off while the solid zinc pencil is firmly corroded in the raw water pump assembly hole...(hole apparently to snug for the zinc)....     Well, folks, change your engine zincs before they fall apart and you have to take the HE apart to get all the fragments out. Ask me how I know. If this post helps ONE Hatteras owner avoid the current unpleasantness, the embarrassment will be well worth it. What a pain this is.

    Can zincs deterioriate when the boat is out of the water?     I was changing the zincs on the front of the engines and found that one is 2" long on the inlet side and the other on the outlet side was over three inches which protruded into the water flow. Does this make sense? Or should they both be two inches?
