  1. Can anyone identify these stainless "trim" rings above the cleats on weatherboards?

I've seen these (I believe to be stainless) trim rings above the cleats on a few LRC's. I like the way they look and would like to add something similar to my 58. Can anyone identify the supplier or have any ideas on how to make them?

  2. Hose on older boats

Considering the purchase an older Hat (1970's era) and started to think about all the systems, etc. that will need to be replaced. One item I just thought about are the hoses, particularly those that don't have a seacock, such as the exhaust hoses. Do these fail? Do they need to be replaced? ...

  3. Engine stalls, fuel issue Detroit 4-71. Simple troubleshooting?

I had a man working over on the port side of my engine room this week and he was "crammed" in the area where the fuel lines come off the Floscan Homogenators/Pulse Dampers and connect over to the fuel pump. The motor has been running perfectly up to that point, but today when I started it to...

  4. Exhaust Blankets - 58LRC, a few questions

Does anyone know if the exhaust blankets in the attached photos would be the original for these engines? Do they contain asbestos? They are in overall decent shape except for one side where the cloth is worn out from running against people squeezing by. Is there a fiberglass tape or other...

  5. Alternator questions

We are learning a lot about our new 58LRC, including some things that are not working. No surprise on a used boat, but it is frustrating that some of these tings were missed by the "engine" surveyor, despite my specifically asking for these items to be checked. One issue I discovered is a 24V...

  6. Muriatic Acid or Vinegar for Galley Maid heads/hoses

Our Master SR head went from working perfectly to not discharging virtually overnight. I thought perhaps the stator or rotor in the 32v pump failed, but when I pulled the vent plug and filled it with water, the pump sucked it right out quickly. So I figured that means the hose from the head to...

  7. Question for 58/65 LRC owners

Can anyone send me a photo or describe what the cabinets on the far right side of the pilothouse are supposed to look like? Mine our simple open shelves and I'd like to return them to original. Where these pull out drawers or did they hinge on sides? Do they contain file hangers? I...

  8. 32V Starting issue, question

Today, I had an interesting problem when I went to start the engines (DD 471's). When I push the start buttons, I got a loud click click click from the solenoids on the starters, but neither engine would crank. I noticed the Sentry charger sounding a bit strange. It would come on (hum) for 1...

  9. Strange issue, tripping 240V GFI

Today, out of nowhere, one of my 240VAC HVAC systems started tripping the GFI every time I turn it on. Trips, even if I just turn to "START" without running the compressor. All of my (four) HVAC systems a connected to this same breaker/GFI in the pilothouse (58LRC). Only the salon HVAC trips...

  10. Scott B, saved my butt again.

Yesterday, we were out on the hook for the 1st time in a few months (a number of repairs and upgrades being done) and had an issue with my Victron Multiplus not charging properly. About 3 weeks ago, I had updated the Firmware on the Cerbo, Multiplus and BVM. Didn't notice any problems as the...

  11. Can anyone identify this panel part?

Please see the attached photo. At the upper right side there is a stainless bulb hood that covers the bulb and directs the light down. I would like to find one for the left side of the panel. Not sure what they are called, so I can't search Sam's online for this part. Thanks Sorry,...

  12. HVAC Circulation pump - Magnetek. How to separate motor from pump end?

Does anyone have any experience separating the motor from the pump on a HVAC Circulation pump? This is a "Magnetek Century AC motor" Seems to use a "Scot" pump which I have ordered, but I can't seem figure out if the old pump is "Keyed" or screwed onto the motor shaft. I've attached a...

  13. Help with these Isolation Transformers (assuming that is what they are)

I have 2 large boxes in the engine room (see below) which I believe to be isolation transformers as well as possibly voltage boosters/frequency converters. Of all the documentation I have on board, I don't have any information on these. I've attached a photo of the top unit and hope maybe...

  14. PEX for water and/or waste hoses?

Sorry if this has been posted already, but SAM's does not allow 3 letter searches so I can't tell if PEX tubing has been discussed. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has replaced the "clear reinforced vinyl hose", copper pipe and/or PVC waste lines using PEX. I would think it would be a great...

  15. Black sealant between teak on pilot house floors

Hi guys, Today I decided that my pilothouse floors aren't looking too good and started to sand them down in preparation for re-coating with Polyurethane. I noticed that there are a few areas where the black sealant between the planks is missing. Is this black silicone, sikaflex or...

  16. Any LRC owned have drawing CED38?

I thought I had a pretty much complete set of drawings for my LRC, but just discovered that I am missing CED38, referenced by another 32V Drawing. I believe CED38 is a drawing of the DC panel/fuse box in the engine room. From what I can tell the "Parallel solenoid" should be in this panel, but...

  17. Floscan 236C senders, can they be opened and repaired?

Has anyone successfully dis-assembled their Floscan senders to diagnose and/or repair them? Are they gear drive or optical? My starboard engine is reading only 2.4v on both fwd and return senders and I think the mechanism inside may be "gummed up" or sticking. Other engine, the senders show...

  19. Allison Transmissions, where is the oil going?

My Detroits (471's) have Allison transmissions. The Allison transmissions have, ever since I've owned the boat, consumed oil. I'd say they require my adding about 3-4 ounces every 18 hours or so of running time. No a big deal, but I should would like to know where it's going... The oil...

  20. Starting Batteries for 32v - DC180-8'?

Looking to build a new starting bank for a 4-71 DD. Existing battery setup is one bank having four 8v195's that is connected to start both engines. I'd prefer not to use the large 8v195's in the new bank and have found a battery recommended by DC Battery Specialists in Miami. I've used this...
