  1. Moving the flybridge forward 4'

Has anyone ever heard of moving the helm of the flybridge on a 50' M/Y forward by 4' or so? Seems on all the newer vessels the helm is much more forward than my 1966 has it. Plus I could really use the room aft of the helm.

  2. Seat idea's

I getting ready to have a wrap around seat built on my aft deck in my 43' dcmy. Just wondering if anybody has ever had one built or has any idea's that might help. One problem is that Ladder that goes up to the flybridge really takes up a lot of room. Lenz

  3. Proper heating for Winter

I am looking for information on the best method for keeping the boat warm during the winter in DC. I was told to get a few oil filled heaters from Home Depot. What should I put in the engine room, salon, cabins? I have a 40' Double Cabin. Thanks, River Rat

  4. Kidde CO2 Tank removal

I found this excellent guidance from Nonchalant and MikeP back in 2007 on testing the HAD actuation. I have a question about removing the hardware from the bottle. According to my Kidde manual, it says to remove the discharge head first. That is the head with the discharge hose coming off of it...

  5. 6v92 injector question

I need to replace injectors in my 6v92 (435hp Covington, 1979). I have 9215 injectors in the engine now, but Atlantic DD doesn't have any in stock. They do have 9215P injectors, which aren't even listed in the manual. So, does anyone here have info on the "P" injectors, and does anyone here...

  7. Battery chargers

I know this subject has been tossed around before, but I still don't get it. We have the original 1986 battery charger on our 36'C. It seems that we get about 2 years out of those heavy 8D batteries. Our boat is plugged in at the dock and I keep the battery charger on. I am concerned that the bilge...

  8. Onan exhaust elbow

The exhaust elbow and connecting nipple on my 1981 Onan 7.5kw generator cracked allowing exhaust gas and cooling sea water to be pumped into the engine room. Fortunately shut the generator down before any significant damage occurred, but could have been a serious problem. Just wanted to alert...

I have a 1989 - 58' Cheoy Lee motor yacht similar in configuaration to the Hatteras 60 Motor yacht of the same vintage. It came from the factory with 1/4" BBB chain and a galley maid chain gypsy to match. We use a 66Lb bruce with all chain rode and have had too many instances where this setup...

  10. What's the fastest verified 53MY speed?

I saw the post re the 23 mph 56MY and was wondering what the fastest anyone has seen or RELIABLY heard that a 53MY has achieved. Ours hit a touch over 18 knots (per GPS) at sea trial when we were purchasing in '04 but it was much lighter then. I did manage to hit 18 once just before winterizing a...

Spent the last few nights reading through most of the threads on this forum about repairing/replacing the deck core and watching some youTube videos on same. 12. Thru-hull lights?

Is anyone using thru-hull lights? How deep do you think you need to penetrate the water? They make them to 600' but I would think 75'-100' would be plenty....

  13. 100 amp to two 50 amp dockside plug in adapter

This past summer I was in a marina with a 74 Hatteras across the dock from me. The Captain of that boat had what appeared to be a home made splitting device(made of the appropriate marine hardware) that plugged into the 100 amp service on the dock that had two 50 amp cords coming out of it that he...

20yr old GE fridge finally gave up the ghost. 17. Question Maintenance Costs Allowance

Having been an avid reader of this forum for a while and still Hatterasless, I realize that boats, especially in the 38'+ class, require continued maintenance if you want them to operate properly and look good. 20. Your favorite shaft seal system

I had replaced my original Australian made shaft seal system in my 2002 Cabo because is was always dripping and slinging a messy goop in a circle around the engine room. I chose the Tides Marine Sure Seal system which almost never drips any water or leaks. The problem is that the system froze to...
