  1. Higher Engine Temps After Cooling Service

After running the Penray online cleaner for 30 days, I flushed the engines (8V71TI) and replaced the coolant with distilled water and Detroit Diesel Powercool Plus 6000. At the dock, the engines warmed up like normal. Once under load at speed, both engines heated up to 185 simultaneously. They have...

  4. Late '80's Wallpaper a Hatt option?

Hey, I'm looking at some '88's 89's and 90 vintage 67' and 70' hatts (you know...the one's with the Stealth exterior?) Some of these boats have wood salons just like the older boats and some of 'em have whitish/off-whitish, what looks to be... wall paper. Not the white washed paneling...I'm...

  6. Water in Gas Tank?

Having a heck of a time with my 1972 43' DC Hatteras with twin 427 gas engines. The Starboard engine, when it runs, runs poorly. Mechanic pulled all the plugs and they were "wet" with water and several were fouled. Replaced the plugs. Also replaced the points because only 1 set was sparking. ...

  7. Rolls battery maintenance

I have 5 year old Rolls. Did an SP gravity test and found one of the 8 volt batteries has two cells that are at the red marks. All other cells are low green or high white marks. Anything I can do to bring the red ones back?

  8. Recessed lights in main salon 1972 43' DC

Two of the four ceiling lights in the main salon have blown bulbs. Replacement bulbs are $60+. Wanting to convert to LED or something without a big price tag when they blow. Any thoughts? This is a 110v light - correct? - not a 12v? Very odd tube bulb with fittings on the end.

  9. Engine rooms ventilation and cool down

I guess I m either trying to re invent the wheel or to think out of the box ... Using a little DC blower to extract heat from the ER doesn't really do anything... blowing air directly from outside isn't a great idea as it just brings a ton of corrosion which I don't want to do on new reman...

  10. replacing the floor

About a month ago, motivated by 1) photos of beautiful flooring in other Hatteras yachts, including MikeP's 53MY, and no, I can't afford to buy it for the floor, and he doesn't hire out, sadly 2) the shabby state of the carpet in the salon of my 36C, I decided to put a new floor in my boat. After...

  11. R-22 substitues for our older Systems

Has anyone successfully refilled their R22 AC Systems with either R-417a or R422d? Both are listed as direct R22 replacements with the only caveat being a slight reduction on cooling performance. Given the inaccessibility of R22, both of these substitutes appear to be readily available with R422d...

  13. Blower replacement for older Cruisair units??

I've searched this forum for hours now on trying to find a replacement old style fan for my cruisair splt systems. Hello, all four of my tachs on my 1973 convertible have stopped. I have Cummins 903 naturals with electric tachs. 16. March Pumps--Possibly the Worst Customer Service Ever!

The below is from another post. As it stood, March was gong to send me a new pump. They, and TESCO, Charlotte, NC, lied. Said pump I returned was perfect. They refunded my money (or are) but would not send out a new pump as the rep promised. Can't get him on the phone now either. Well, I...

  17. OPINIONS REQUESTED: Co2 Fire System Inspection / Re-certification

Hi Guys n Gals, There are several posts here regarding the re-cert (hydro test) of the OEM Co2 fire system but I received a quote from a local (Lodi, NJ) Fire Equipment vendor that just seems to me to be way off the mark. The details of the quote are provided below and no further info was...

  18. Doing The Required Maintenance Or Service That Isn't Required But Really Is

Wonder why they put that on there? The service guy at Flosan was very helpful. I really like companies like Floscan (Wesmar to name another) that haven't decided to get rid of the people who answer the phone. So, I had some vacuum (another post) on my port side fuel system. I've been through...

  19. Converting from mechanical tachometer to electronic

Hi Gents, I looked around the forum and I am sure it is somewhere but I failed to find it. My 79 Hat with 8v71ti Detroits with mechanical tachometers have been stubborn, intermittent and now are defunct/dead. What have others here replaced with in electronic/electrical type? Mark
