  1. Cruisair Questions

Hello all, i've tried to register over at marineac.com to ask these questions on the forums there but can't seem to get registered for it, so I'm going to post them here. Basically I'm trying to go through our AC/Heat systems and repair/fix/learn about them. My goal is to become...

  3. ER Blower pilot light replacement

My engine room blowers have pilot lights on the panel in the bridge. The lights have a wire soldered to a terminal on one side and a resistor of some type on the other connected to a switch. The terminal broke off one of the wires right at the back of the light. I wasn't successful in soldering it...

  4. Afromosia Veneer on Ebay

I recently picked up some afromosia veneer off of ebay and had some good results that I thought would be worth sharing. The stuff I bought was 32" x 11.5" didn't have sticky backing and was 25$ shipped. Seems like there is quite a bit out there right now for very little $$ so if you need to match...

  5. Engine bilge pump

Diesel d when changing the oil dumped about a gallon in each bilge. I have tried to use pads to soak up, but what a mess. Anyone have a recommendation on a portable pump for the oil and one that could be used for anti freeze after a flush.

  6. 12-71 coolant change details

I am planning to do the coolant change on our 81 12V-71 TA Detroit's soon. Here is where I am at so far: I have found a local source for the Detroit coolant. I have also found 5gal containers and lids. The store is uline.com if you are looking for cheap pails! I found a local disposal...

  7. Need to replace cutlass bearings?

On my 2001 55' convertible I noticed a whistle when I put in gear on both engines...I dove under the boat and turned the props by hand and the whistle/squeak seems to be coming from the cutlass bearing. The boat is in Mexico and the nearest haul out is 100 miles...is this a sign the bearing need...

  8. Hynautic Steering - Flare Connections

I'm laying out a new autopilot system for my 1976 dual helm hynautic steering 43' Double Cabin. I need to add T's with shut off valves and flexible connections from the Autopilot pump to existing 1/4" copper return line and existing 3/8" copper starboard and port lines to steering cylinder. Can...

  9. Fuel gauge trust

New to an early 80's 61 MY. Fuel capacity just over 1100 gals in two tanks with dial type gauges on top of the tanks. In past boats, I have always used a dip stick to determine fuel on board and have never been wrong. These gauges appear to be working properly, but I am curious of other members...

I need some assistance in determining where this turbo is leaking. Is it a seal or a gasket beneath the clamp? Does this look familar to any of you? What would be my next course of action for repair? Thanks for the help! John

  11. Plexiglass Side Windows

I'm looking into replacing the side windows on my 34C. The tinted plexiglass with be secured using the 3M 5962 VHB with a caulking of Dow 795. The plexi will be either 3/8 or 1/2in. Will replacing the glass windows with plexi cause a structural issue for the flybridge? The front windshields...

  12. 112v71TI Dual Station Oil Senders

The port oil sender has gone wonky and needs to be replaced. The original part is no longer available. Sams only has a replacement gauge (2 needed) and replacement sender, but they are not the same for my 1984 vintage dashboard. I sent one gauge to a testing mob and have found out the...

  13. 8D House Battery Dropping Load Quickly

Experiencing a bit of weirdness regarding my house battery's. I have (4) NAPA Commercial lead/acid 8d battery's to service the house systems. They are about 2.5 years old. Batt 1&2, which share a common "Off,1,All,2" switch seem to drop the load very quickly, especially when handling high...

  16. Best House batteries

Greetings, I run a 4 battery system, 1 battery for each engine, and 2 batteries to use as the house batteries. I am replacing all 4 this Spring, and wanted to know if people had recommendations for the house batteries. I will most likely be buying CAT 8D's for the starting batteries, not looking...

  20. Vague air horn question

My air horn stopped working suddenly. The system appears to consist of an engine driven compressor that feeds a small manifold which supplies a 3 gallon air tank in the engine room. Air line then runs to the bridge and stops at a solenoid just before the actual horns. There is only ~15lbs of...
