Just thought I would ask/share about favorite boating movies.

Dead Calm (Nicole Kidman)

Flipper (original Chuch Conners) Chuch says "well if the house is gone at least we have the boat". Great line I usually turn it up to let her hear it. LOL

The Deep (nice T-shirt)

Doc Hollywood not many boats but good flick

Bounty with Mel Gibson.

Plus all the regular ones ie Top Gun etc looking for good movies that others don't usually have.

What ya got?

Have fun boating.

"Master & Commander"...there are no land scenes, if I am not mistaken. Also, great boat read: "The Riddle Of The Sands", by Robert Erskine Childers. A sailing story but this is early in the last century.

Captains Courageous, the 1937 version, with Spencer Tracy and Freddie Bartholomew. Great story about a spoiled rich kid who falls overboard from a steamship and is rescued by a schooner from the cod fishing fleet. The experience changes his life. Some beautiful scenes of these old sailing ships and a lost way of life. On tape, but no DVD yet.

Also, the Bedford Incident will have you checking your radar more closely...
the Wake of the Red Witch with John Wayne, and actually I enjoy the Walt Disney 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...

All the movies mentioned are GREAT movies, however for "MOVIES ON THE BOAT" it's hard to beat Captain Ron ye swabs. Boaters are always looking for an excuse to have a party on board. What can be better than a gang of friends and some cold ones with the TV on the AFT deck playing Capn Ron?
In fact Captain Ron parties are becoming popular all over. I recently returned from San Diego (to NJ) and attended a Captain Ron party... It was a blast...

Incidentally, there are no age restrictions.. I'm 68 and I'm still not acting my age.... Walt

Ok, ok. I didn’t mention the kid movies. I can’t keep track of them anyway. I know my daughter likes the Brats Movie…:(

When I showed my kids the classics like “The Old Man and the Sea”, “Mutiny” and “Moby Dick”, I thought they would think them corny. But, to my surprise, they loved them. They watch these over and over. I’m really happy about that, and relieved, considering some of the stuff they could watch on the TV.

The next classic that I’ll show them will have to be “Capt Ron”.:)

I picked up the Victory at Sea DVD's (comes w/3). Whoa...that fabulous series and some post research, esp. regarding Midway and Gulf of Leyte battle, among others, indicates we are damn well lucky we survived Dec 7 1941 to late 1942 and beyond. Way overmanned and totally outgunned...on paper anyway. Glad the opponent was hosed up big time. Gives the Big Lie to Mr. Hanks recent horrible remarks. P.s., Richard Rogers personally wrote the entire 52 hours of theme music for VatSea- a massive undertaking.

There's not a chance in H3LL that I'd watch any sort of boat related disaster movie on board or even have DVD's of them on board!
Superstitious? Heck no. Just "careful." :)

Cpt Ron is the BEST boat movie for viewing ON a boat ever made and I generally HATE all comedy movies as being so absurdly stupid that they are insulting. But somehow Cpt Ron works for me. Go figure. ;)

Hate to rain on the parade fellas, but a couple of moths ago a thread on navigation was moved because one of the illustrious moderators decided it wasn't technical. So what gives here, moderators only move threads when their expert opinion is questioned, or are certain people just special to the moderators.

Now moderators go right ahead and delete this post, as it is a prime example of why people are losing interest in this site. Double standards never work.

Mike,

I think Capt Ron appeals to us because of such classic lines as "gee Capt Ron why do these diesel engines use so much oil", "Nobody knows swab, nobody knows".

Actually any movie that is set on the sea is a favorite to me. The best IMO is the Victory At Sea series. Corny maybe, but I still get goose bumps watching some of the original footage that they used. Richard Rodgers musical score is so well done that I don't think it will ever be beat. The Greatest Generation,,,,,you bet your ass.

A few months ago I ran accross a threat regarding movies on a WD Hard drive. Using the input found here I have been able to remove more than 150 DVDs from the boat and replace them with a small portable drive with 200 movies ready to play. I just checked my Boat file on the hard drive and here are a few that I didn't see in the previous list: Men of Honor, Crimson Tide, K19 WIdowmaker, Cutthroat Island, Deliverence, MEssage in a bottle.

We just picked up all four Superman movies with Christopher Reeve for $9.99. Haven't seen them in years, and my kid never saw them. So we're watching the first one and some bad guys are involved in a car chase to a dock where there's a boat waiting for them to make their escape. I wouldn't have picked it up when I was a kid, but this time I look and say "That's a Hatteras!" Superman leaves a 45 foot convertible on the street in front of the police station with the bad guys tied to the bow rail and the bilge pump running.

Not a boating movie per se, but a Hatteras sighting. Thought I'd share it, and maybe bump the thread to see if there's any new suggestions.
