I'm contemplating installing an opening gate on my bow Stainless Stell rail and would like to cut the rail and weild on an hinge and clasp for easier bow boarding.

Is it safe to weld the rails since I presume they are wired (bonded) to the boats grounding system?

I dont think that the bow rail is grounded, any ohm meter would tell the tale.

Why weld them? I'd use regular socket type fittings. Make the hinge and latch if you need to on the bench. ws

If the rail is bonded, and i think that is un likely, you could gas weld the mod.
