Rob and I have looked at quite a few Hatteras and it appears that most of them have had some water damage around the port hole areas. we were wondering what would have to be done to correct this problem. (it seems in most cases that the windows just need to be reseated) should we be concerned about other water problems

I have seen some that have little to no water damage because the owners were on top of the maintenance. They all have caulking that needs to be replaced and the ones that open need the tracks cleared out. It's all in catching it before it causes damage.

Brenda,

Yes you can work with this. For the port holes, they may need to be re-gasketed and those can be obtained from Sam's. The wood can be refinished and that will take care of the staining. If it's really bad, the veneer can be replaced in those areas.

For the salon or other areas, similar deal. Clean out tracks, replace parts as necessary (many obtainable from Sam's), and refinish interior wood.

Many of us have had to deal with these problems.

The larger issue you need to look out for is moisture that has gotten into the coring in the roof such as water getting in around exterior fittings and in flybridge. A good surveyor will find this problem. Again, fixable, but probably not a do-it-yourself project for most of us.

Hope that's helpful- there are probably past threads also on the form that talk about this.
